Sweden’s national squad manager Lars Richt has confirmed that their legendary footballer Zlatan Ibrahimovic won’t join them in World Cup 2018 Russia. It ends the weeks of speculation whether The 36-years-old footballer will play for Sweden. Zlatan has actually retired from a national squad of Sweden following his last performance with the squad in Euro 2016. Previously, many media have speculated that Zlatan will come back for World Cup 2018. Sweden has made it through the World Cup 2018 Russia after winning against Italy in the playoff.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic is a Sweden professional footballer who has joined world’s biggest teams and has ever played for his country in World Cup 2002 and 2006. The absence of Zlatan is actually no longer the matter of qualification as Sweden has managed it without him. If there was a discussion about Zlatan’s return the it should be about winning the World Cup 2018. However, the Sweden coach disagree with that opinion.
Swedish football federation has officially announced that the Ibrahimovic won’t make comeback for the World Cup 2018. The federation confirmed after Zlatan has made some possible returns. It’s not the squad who makes the decision but Zlatan did by himself. Richt has talked to Zlatan on Tuesday, and the footballer has announced that he won’t rejoin the national team even for the world’s biggest football tournament. Its less than two months until the tournament begins, it seems that the decision is the final one.
The hints of his comeback issued by the striker in several chances, make the media speculates the possibilities as the time is counting down. Zlatan has ever hinted that he would have come back to the Sweden National team if it’s for World Cup on 18 April in Jimmy Kimmel show. Previously on 15th April, Zlatan tweeted that there was a very high chance for him to play in the World Cup 2018. Well, he used the term “skyhöga” which means sky high, or a very high possibility if we ignore all the negative semantic meanings of this term.
However, there is no sign that Zlatan taking formal steps to rejoin his country’s team. Zlatan didn’t make any conferences or press release about his status on national team until the N
ational Federation has confirmed this matter. Later, Zlatan clarified that the semantic has previously used, sky high, refers to “high odds”, not a certainty of that “it’s going to happen”. He also said that he wouldn’t change his mind as he spoke Lars Richt to confirm his absence on the national football squad of Sweden.
The Sweden coach Janne Anderson has shown a calmer response to the Zlatan return for World Cup. The coach argued that the presence of Zlatan in national team won’t change anything for him. However, the Anderson welcome any communication from Zlatan. It’s reasonable as the Sweden team has struggled to pass the qualification with this very team, without Zlatan. In fact, the 6ft 4inch striker has kept saying that he quit the national squad and won’t play for it before he makes hints which have confused many people.
The blue-and-yellow fans obviously wanted to see Zlatan wearing the country’s jersey again. However, some others have a more linear argument that Zlatan shouldn’t be on a team as he didn’t contribute to the team passing the qualification. Considering that team has remarkably beaten Italy which is one of World’s football beasts, the country seems to already have a perfect squad for World Cup 2018, even without Zlatan.
It’s been two years after Zlatan retrieved himself from national Squad after Euro 2016. He was a part of world’s giant football teams including Ajax, Inter Milan, AC Milan, Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain, and of course Manchester United. 2017 is the year where he had to end his career early in United due to a horrible ligament injury. Today, he’s playing for LA Galaxy but still well-known as the part of Manchester United.
At this point, we can conclude that the absence of Zlatan Ibrahimovic on World Cup 2018 Russia is confirmed and final. It’s interesting to see how the Sweden national team which has managed through qualification without Zlatan, to perform in the biggest football tournament in the world.
