Russia is now seriously preparing to welcome World Cup 2018 through massive improvements on home cities. There will be millions of football fans from all around the world visiting Russia within less than a couple months. Russian spends about US$ 11 billion for building a dozen of stadiums spread over 11 cities including Moscow, Sochi, St. Petersburg, Saransk, Kazan, Volgograd, Kaliningrad, Nizhny Novgorod, Rostov-on-Don, Samara, and Yekaterinburg.
However, Russian government sees this opportunity to enhance country’s economic growth. The government project the economic impact of World Cup 2018 Russia for about US$ 30.8 billion boosts up to the next five years. the projection collaboratively anticipates the income from tourism during the spectacle, returns of the infrastructure and construction project, and the investment of the Russian government.
Deputy Prime Minister Arkady Dvorkovich argued that hosting the World Cup 2018 potentially generates “considerable economic effect”. the Government argues that each city hosting the tournaments will gain economic development both short-term benefit and the long-term one. The short-term may refer to tourism income when the World Cup is held while the long-term may refer to investment return.
The PM also argued that there will be no significant inflation due to World Cup 2018 hosting investment. The government claim that hosting World Cup 2018 is followed by productive investments which don’t generate burdening inflation to the market. The inflation, however, can occur at temporary term especially for cities and regions which directly host the World Cup 2018 due to consumer demand.
As the time is counting down, the progress of the massive project faces eligible development and trouble at the same time. It seems that locals wouldn’t gain benefits from this international tournaments. It’s not a secret that many International extravaganzas might gain success to offer excitement and boost national income, but fails to profit locals. It explains why many cities of Russian are reluctant to welcome the World Cup.
One of the sign is that Moscow is going to ban alcohol during the World Cup 2018 Russia. Moscow will host a dozen of matches including the opening match Russia vs Saudi Arabia. The capital city will make provide all the amusements except the alcohols. There will be no restaurants or pub selling alcohol around Moscow during the event. The authority has confirmed the ban due to violence history between Russia and England fans back in the 2016 euro tournament. In other hands, the diplomatic tension between Russia and England during these past months may contribute the ban.
It’s easy to find that the authority majorly considers the England fans as who to blame for the alcohol ban. However, it’s not only Moscow that will apply the ban, it seems that the rest of the host cities will do the same. So far, the authority applies 1-2 miles radius where the alcohol will be completely banned for sale. The ban includes “alcohol and refreshment drinks in glass containers”.
The diplomatic crisis between Russia and England is hardly calming down. However, both UK’s foreign affairs and Russian authorities have done everything they could to ensure the England participation in World Cup 2018. This includes the security precautions for both the England athletes and supporters which travels across the cities. Well, it can be a good opportunity for both country to tighten the relationship and scale down the diplomatic tension.
As well as the construction progress, the odd rules are issued during the last weeks to kick off date.Even though the alcohol will be banned, the drugs are allowed with a doctor’s note. It’s due to the fact that the regulation has legalized the use of drugs especially for visitors from five ex-Uni Soviet countries. Cocaine, heroin, and marijuana can enter the Russian border as long as there is a prescription translated to Russian and legally notarized. Of course, it doesn’t mean that you can smoke the marijuana inside the stadium.
However, there will be security checking any prescription validity and all the narcotics. Only those which has a proper paperwork may pass the security check and enter the stadium. The Izvestia newspaper confirms that there will be English-speaking doctors stand by the stadium. These complex constellations of World Cup 2018 Russia will continue within the next weeks.
